DOYLE, LORNE EDWARD "DUFFY", 87, of Annapolis died April 18 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born January 7, 1927 in Malden, Massachusetts to the late Stephen and Katherine Doyle, Duffy enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17. After 33 years of service, he retired from the US Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer HMCS. He fought in the South Pacific on the USS Hyman and was a veteran of WWII, Korean War and Vietnam. Duffy was part of the first Nuclear Power Program under Admiral Rickover. He was a Plank Owner on the USS Long Beach CGN-9, the first nuclear powered surface ship. He was also Plank Owner on the USS Boxer and the USS Hyman. Duffy was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD and was active with the Fleet Reserve Club in Annapolis, MD. He was an avid reader who loved to solve intricate math problems. He loved horse racing, watching baseball-especially the Dodgers and the Yankees and watched the Boston Braves as a young boy. He enjoyed collecting model trains, playing the banjo and the ukulele. Lorne is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 55 years, Thelma Jane Doyle. Surviving him are three sons, Stephen E. Doyle of Tucson, AZ, Kevin M. Doyle of Dayton, MD and Shawn P. Doyle of Towson, MD; four daughters, Patricia A. Marles of Turlock, CA, Pamela M. Harvey of Annapolis, MD, Colleen B. Bollinger and Mary A. Ogburn; six grandsons, Patrick, Michael, Ryan and Spencer Doyle, Andrew Ogburn and Robert Harvey, Jr.; also survived by fourteen granddaughters, Michelle Roylance, Meghan Pacheco, Erin Carpenter, Courtney and Katie Doyle, Hayley Marles, Kelsey Ogburn, Brianna Callahan, Jilian, Sarah, Lindsay and Jenna Bollinger, Brandie Hall and Vesta Harvey. Friends are invited to Lorne's Life Celebration on Wednesday, April 23 from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 24 at 9:30AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 Central Ave., Davidsonville. Interment will follow in MD Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville.
