The Honorable Mary A. Conroy -- Former Maryland State Senator and member of the House of Delegates, Mary Ann Conroy, 82, of Annapolis, Maryland died August 9, 2014 at home surrounded by her son, Hospice of the Chesapeake and Visiting Angels. Born Christmas Day 1931 in New York City to the late John Joseph O'Connor and Florence Rountree, she was the only daughter with three brothers, George, Patrick and Bernard. On December 29, 1952, she married the late State Senator Edward T. Conroy also of New York City. He pre-deceased her in May 1983 The Conroy's were the first family to move into Bowie, Maryland in 1961. Mary worked for Eastern Airlines prior to her marriage and served as State Senator and Delegate for 24 years representing the 23rd legislative district of Prince George's County. Mary attended Prince George's Community College. Mary is a former State Commander for the Disabled American Veterans. She was a duckpin bowler, member of the Board of License Commissioners, Prince George's County; Korean War Memorial Commission; Hall of Records Commission; World War II Memorial Commission; Task Force on Parking for Individuals with Disabilities, Prince George's Community College; Executive Board, United Cerebral Palsy of Prince George's County; Director, American Cancer Society; Founding member, Bowie Citizens Association; Charter member, Bowie Women's Club; Member, Bowie Democratic Club, Laurel Democratic Club; Delegate, Democratic Party National Convention, 1984, 1992 (chair, subcommittee on affirmative action for women, 1984); Past president, Bowie Chapter, American Association of Retired Persons; Member, Columbian Ladies Guild; Bowie Business and Professional Women's Club. Mary is survived by her two sons; Edward and his wife Susan (Weinand) of Beltsville, MD and their children Brigid and Robert, and the late Edward John, Jr.; former Bowie City Councilman Kevin and his wife Patricia (Marker) and their two children Brendan and Kathryn Ann. Mary has two great grandchildren, Shane and Kylee and a third due in December. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 14th, 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 16501 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Appalachian Project, P.O.
