Lt. Col. (Ret.) William H. Netherland (Bill), 77, of Severna Park, MD, lost his hard-fought battle with leukemia on August 8, 2014. Born in Beaver, PA in 1936, he is the son of Margaret Boyd Netherland and George Netherland of Beaver, PA. Colonel Netherland served his country for 33 years in the US Army Signal Corps, serving in Vietnam in 1969-70, two tours in Europe, and several in the United States before retiring from the Pentagon. He is a graduate of Beaver Area Senior High School and Armstrong State College. Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years Elizabeth Ann Netherland (Grubich), daughter Peggy Johnson and her husband Bob, daughter-in-law Dianne Netherland, son William H. Netherland Jr. and his wife Melissa, grandchildren Katie and Eric Johnson, Michael and Sara Netherland, Isabel Netherland, and sister Nancy Gibbs of Beaver. He was predeceased by his son Michael John Netherland in 2010, his brothers George and Christy Netherland, and his parents. More than anything, Bill loved spending time with his family and his dog DJ. His presence in our lives, especially his joie de vivre, will be missed by us beyond expression.
