Frederick Hagelgans, Jr., of Pasadena, MD, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Assisted Living Well Compassionate Care in Millersville, MD, at the age of 90. Fred was born in Baltimore, MD and graduated from Poly High School in Baltimore, MD in 1943, where he played football. Fred retired from Bethlehem Steel #2 Machine Shop at Sparrows Point after 43 years in 1984. Fred was a devoted husband of Edythe; she worked at Hutzler's in Southdale, Pasadena, MD until Fred retired. They loved to travel, and some of the places they went were to Alaska, Panama Canal, and St. Martin. They attended his 96th Infantry Division 381st Co E Army Reunion regularly, wherever it was--all over the United States. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #120 where he was a Past Master in 1959 and a member for over 50 years. He was also a member of Boumi Temple, Baltimore Forest, Glearer Chapter #49 Club Scout Master, and Scottish Rite. Fred was a faithful member of the Pasadena Methodist Church for over 50 years. Some of his hobbies were square dancing, bowling with the Monday Senior League, gardening, photography, and spending time at Ocean City, Maryland, where he and Edythe had a cottage. Fred is survived by his sons, Charles Hagelgans of Gloversville, NY (and wife Ruth), and Bruce Hagelgans (and wife Barbara) of Arnold, MD; grandchildren Jessica Wolst (and husband Randolf), Adam Hagelgans, Wendy Hagelgans and Janet Hagelgans. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Edythe Hagelgans, 20 years earlier. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Baltimore.
