John Scible Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 28, 2016.

John (Jack) Elmer Mark Scible, 88, a longtime resident of Davidsonville, died peacefully in his home on June 24th. Jack was born April 21, 1928, in Annapolis, to the late John Elmer and Rosa Townshend Scible. He married his sweetheart and soulmate of 61 years, Mary Doepkens Scible. As a young boy, Jack grew up milking cows and farming; so when he began a career with the FBI, working directly with J. Edgar Hoover, he discovered that being cooped up in an office wasn't for him. He began working in the shipyards in Baltimore, until he landed within the construction and development industry. Jack helped to develop much of the infrastructure and many of the communities in and around Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. Alongside his career, he continued harvesting crops and raising animals. His hobbies included antiquing with his wife, bowling, hunting, and collecting Native American artifacts. He was amember of the Annapolis Elks and former member of the Davidsonville Ruritan. Of all things in life, Jack most enjoyed being a devoted husband, father to his five children, a grandfather, great-grandfather, and spending time on his farm in Davidsonville. He loved these things above all else. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Helen; his son, George Henry Scible; one grandson, Benjamin Scible; and two great-grandchildren, Camden and Madelyn Terry. He is survived by his two sons, Mark Scible of Gambrills and David Scible of Edgewater; two daughters, Mary May of Davidsonville and Joan Wood of Deale; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of dear friends. Friends are invited to Jack's Life Celebration from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29th, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where a Remembrance Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30th.
