Lois Caplan Obituary

Lois Gloria Simons Caplan, 71, died December 25 at her home in Arnold following a fifteen month battle with cancer. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Lois moved to Maryland in 1964 with her husband, Ivan Lee Caplan and raised her two children, Jordan Charles Caplan and Diana Rachel Caplan Jolles. Lois worked as a medical lab technician for many years in several hospitals, eventually transitioning to a long career (and then volunteering) with the Annapolis Library on West Street where she was Circulation Supervisor. Lois is a graduate of Anne Arundel Community College with an Associate's degree in psychology. She enjoyed reading and supporting the arts and humanities, and she was a long-time member of the Charles Theater "Cinema Sundays" film series. Lois traveled the world, and enjoyed promoting women's health and education. She was preceded in death by her mother Minna Leah Simons. In addition to her husband and children, Lois is survived by her father, Charles Norman Simons; brother, Scott Simons; daughter-in-law, Stacey Caplan; and three grandchildren, Michaela Caplan, Madeline Caplan, and Tori Allender. Services were held on December 28 at Temple Beth Shalom in Arnold, with burial at Beth Tfiloh Cemetery in Woodlawn. Memorial donations may be made to the "Room to Read" charity which promotes youth literacy in underdeveloped countries at http://roomtoread.kintera.org/general/LoisLibrary
