Jimmie Reed Obituary

REED, JIMMIE EDMUND, 81, passed away unexpectedly September 27, 2013, at Moultrie Creek Nursing & Rehab Center in St. Augustine, Florida. He was born on May 20, 1932 in Rockwood, Alabama to Marvin Lee and Lora Levins Reed. He has been a resident of St. Augustine for over 30 years. Jimmie grew up and spent most of his life in Landover Hills, Maryland. He graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1951. He joined the United States Navy in 1952, served his country for 4 years, and is a veteran of the Korean War. Jimmie began work for Landover Hills Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad where he worked for 22 years and was Past-President and Chief. Other occupations included sales and real-estate, but his last occupation with the St. Johns School District is the one he holds most dear to his heart. The responsibility of driving School Bus 58 was something he didn't take lightly. He made sure the lives of his students were safe, happy, and comfortable as they began and ended their school day. Retiring after 11 years was one of the most difficult choices he had to make. Jimmie was happily married for 21 years to Joann, the love of this life. He was a loyal member of SABDA and had a strong passion for dancing. One of his favorite times was visiting family in Lusby, Maryland during the holidays. Everyone will remember him as a classy, gentleman who loved story-telling and remembering past times. He was a warm friend to so many. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Lora Reed; his wife, Joann Reed; brother, Max Reed; and sister, June Reed Scanlon. He is survived by his stepsons, Allen Beard and DeWayne Beard; granddaughter, Cheree Beard; and other family and friends. The family of Jimmie Reed wishes to thank the caring staff of Moultrie Creek Nursing & Rehab for making Mr. Reed feel at home for the last couple of years. He especially enjoyed 2 o'clock in the Ice Cream Parlor. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 3rd at Craig Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at the online guest registry www.craigfuneralhome.com

Rest in peace Uncle Jimmie. I picture you in heaven surrounded by your wife, mother, father, sister and brother. I have no doubt too that you are entertaining them with jokes and stories! Love to you always.

Very saddened to have read of Jim's passing! My wife and I knew him well when he and me, where employees at the Record. Had great times.
His 'seriousness', wisdom and ability to bounce back from any adversity was admirable.
May he rest in peace. He will be missed!
