Irene Beadner passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home on December 9, 2011. She and her husband Harold (1994) settled in Rancho Bernardo in 1968 after his retirement from the U.S. Air Force. Irene was a devoted Air Force wife and mother who supported her husband in his assignments in New Mexico, Arizona, Okinawa, Michigan, Texas, California, Alaska, Oklahoma and Missouri. She was a member of the Air Force Officers Wives Club and volunteered more than 1000 hours over 10 years for AF Family Services helping newly relocated military families.|
Irene was born in Marshfield (Coos Bay), Oregon, in 1914, and later moved with her family to Ladysmith, Wisconsin, where she completed high school and normal school. She was a trained bookkeeper. After her schooling the family moved back to Oregon in 1933 where she met Harold. They were married in 1940 and remained so for 54 years.
In Rancho Bernardo, as a member of Country Club of Rancho Bernardo (CCRB), she took up golf for the first time in her 60's and participated regularly in Women's Golf groups at the Club. Harold and Irene traveled about Southern California with their golf group, the Nomads. Irene continued playing golf into her 90's. They were loyal San Diego Padres season ticket holders for over 10 years.
Irene was a skilled bridge player, playing bridge at CCRB several times a week. She enjoyed puzzles, knitting and was a skilled seamstress. She knitted many hundreds of infant and childrens caps with her friends at "Heartstrings," a knitting group who provides caps to children of the world.
Irene was inducted into the Order of the Eastern Star (Oregon Beulah Chapter 6) on April 6, 1950, and had been active with the Escondido Chapter for over 40 years. She was awarded the Rob Morris Service Award in 1985. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi.
Irene is survived by her loving family, her sister, Blanche Tice of Sumner, WA, and her children, Judy Nelthropp of Stamford, CT, Mary Jane (Doug) McKinnon of Tacoma, WA, and Sally Tice of Elk Grove, CA; nephew, Gary Sandon of Las Cruces, NM; and nieces, Sandi (Leo) Dunn, and Lindi (Tom) Dreher, both of Austin TX; her son, David (Cheri) Beadner of Burke, VA, and his children, Shera Bradley of Henderson, NV, and Michael (Jennifer) Beadner and their children, Olivia, Noah and Abram of Ft Wayne, IN; and her daughter, Suzanne (John) Ramsdell of Gig Harbor, WA, her children, Randy (Lisa) Harris of Phoenix, AZ, and his children, Alison and Luke, and Keith Harris of San Francisco, CA. Irene was preceded in death by two older brothers, Ted (Ev) Sandon of Escondido, CA, and Jerry (Mary) Sandon of Scottsdale, AZ.
Burial will be with her husband, Harold, at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA, on December 27, 2011, at 1:00 PM. The Order of the Eastern Star will host a Memorial Service on December 28, 2011, at 3 PM at The Masonic Center, 1331 S. Escondido Blvd, Escondido.
