Peggy S. Hughs, resident of Poway since February, 1975, passed away early in the morning on Monday, February 27, 2012, in the company of friends and her husband after a twenty-five month battle with cancer.|
In addition to husband, Jerry, Peg leaves behind a son, Jerry M. and daughter-in-law, Cathy of Seattle; a granddaughter, Melissa L. Hughs of Los Angeles; as well as hundreds of friends near and far, many of whom were travel companions on numerous world-wide vacations.
Born in Lucerne, MO, August 14, 1936, Peggy married at a young age and enjoyed an enduring, loving marriage of nearly 59 years. Peggy loved being a Navy wife, moving frequently, living overseas and savoring life. Following her husband's retirement from a Navy career, they both entered into second careers with the County of San Diego, jointly retiring on Valentine's Day in 1995.
During retirement Peggy had time to set free her love of knitting, crochet, gardening, jewelry making, travel, volunteering, hosting parties/dinners, cooking, mentoring youngsters and whatever else struck her fancy. She was a true Renaissance woman.
Cremation and scattering of ashes at sea with no ceremony or services were her desires.
