Dorothy Rankin, 101, of Poway, CA, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2012. She was born February 17, 1911, in Johnstown, PA, to Burley and Bessie Bracken. Mrs. Rankin was a resident of San Diego County for more than 54 years.|
Dorothy studied classical piano as a child and loved to play the piano and organ and loved to sing. She was a long time member of many choirs. She was an avid swimmer and, while living in San Diego, swam at North Cove of San Diego Bay three or more times a week. While living in San Marcos, she swam 40 laps almost every day. Mrs. Rankin was very artistic and her home very much reflected her talent. She was an amazing woman loved by all.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Don Rankin of Lansdale, PA; daughters, Joanne (George) Midla of South Bend, IN, Joyce (Karl) Yordy of Tucson, AZ, and Marjorie Pyatt of Poway, CA; sister, Jean Lawhead of Lutz, FL; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don D. Rankin; sisters, Mardelle Gaudig, Olive Peterman and Zella Gabriel; and three grandchildren.
Interment with a graveside service took place at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway, CA.
