Frances Eng Obituary

INDIAN LAND – Frances F. Eng on June 1, 2014, left her home hospice care provided by her loving family to enter her home in heaven provided by our loving Savior, Jesus Christ.
Frances was the loving wife of 44 years to Gene Eng of Indian Land, and the beloved mother of two sons, Jonathan Eng of Boston, Mass., and Jeremy Eng of Los Angeles, Calif.
Frances F. Teng was born on July 18, 1946, in the Szechuan Province of China. Her family fled to Taiwan to escape the communists in 1949.  At age 8, the family emigrated to New York City, where she earned a degree in psychology from Hunter College and received her master's in Far Eastern studies from the University of Iowa. In 1970, she dropped the T from her name and married Gene Eng. In 1974, Frances Eng followed her husband to Columbia, Md., where she raised her family and developed a following as a Chinese cooking instructor. Frances Eng took a full-time job at the NSA in Fort Meade, Md. She retired in 2008 after 23 years at NSA and moved to the warm Carolina lifestyle in Sun City Carolina Lakes. In retirement, Frances Eng was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church and continued to serve as an auxiliary of the Gideons International.
Frances Eng has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the building fund of All Saints Lutheran Church, or to provide Bibles in over 195 countries with the Gideon Card Program, P.O. Box 314, Fort Mill, SC 29716.
A memorial service for Frances Eng is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at All Saints Lutheran Church, 17030 Lancaster Highway, Charlotte, NC 28277.
An online guest register is available on the obituaries page at www.burgessfunerals.com.
