Jill Louise Ayres, 51, of Westminster, passed away Thursday June 25, 2015 at the Hanover Hospital in Hanover, PA. Born May 20, 1964 in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Wesley A. and Audrey Louise Davidson Johnson. She was the fiancé of William C. Mielke, Jr. of Westminster. She had been employed as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hampstead. Surviving, in addition to her fiancé, are daughters, Jennifer Ayres of Upperco, Jannae Cross and her husband Donald Cross, Jr. of New Oxford, PA; son, John Ayres, Jr. and his wife Samantha of Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Lilian Ayres, Tyler Ayres, Brooklyn Ayres and Rylan Ayres; sister, Jan Graf of Hampstead; brothers, James Johnson of Manchester, PA, Jeffrey Johnson of Rock Hall and Jerry Johnson of Manchester, MD. The family will receive friends Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Eline Funeral Home, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Bates, Joyce  
Joyce Aileen Bates, age 72, of Westminster MD., died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Carroll Hospice, Inc., Dove House in Westminster, Md. Born September 29, 1942, in rural Carroll County MD., she was the daughter of the late Martha and Walter Chenoweth. She was the loving wife of Thomas Edward Bates, for 38 years. Surviving in addition to her husband are her children Cindy Callahan and Wayne Ross; step-children Scott Bates, Seth Bates, and Jordanna Bates; her sisters Mary Hurd and Christina Grimes; along with several grandchildren and numerous family members and friends. Joyce was predeceased by siblings Martha Hart and Donald Chenoweth. Joyce enjoyed many activities, such as spending time outdoors/walking, knitting, quilting, and spending time with her family and friends. Joyce was employed as a dental assistant as her occupation; most recently she worked for 29 years at McDonough Dental Assoc. in Owings Mill, MD. Beard, Elizabeth  
Mrs. Elizabeth M. Beard, 86, formerly of Union Bridge, died Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Golden Living Nursing Center, Westminster, after a brief illness. Born January 7, 1929 in Thurmont, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Agnes Krietz Knott. She was the wife of Milton Wesley Beard who died in 2006. Mrs. Beard was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Taneytown. She enjoyed working on a variety of puzzles and spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Pittinger and husband Larry of Union Bridge; 2 grandsons, David W. Pittinger of Taneytown and Michael A. Pittinger and wife Sue of Walkersville and a sister, Geraldine Leather of Hagerstown. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, Allen, Guy and Earl Knott. A private graveside service will be held at Rocky Hill Cemetery, near Woodsboro, with Msgr. Martin Feild, her pastor, officiating. There will be no public visitation. Becraft, Martha E.  
Mrs. Martha E. Becraft, 71, of Mt. Airy passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at the Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster. She was the wife of the late William A. Becraft who passed on January 7, 2015, they were married 35 years. Born on February 19, 1944 in Cambridge, MD she was the daughter of the late James Sheperd and Elizabeth Schnoor Henry. Martha had a life long career as an LPN. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Linus Project where she enjoyed sewing, especially quilting for children in need. Martha was a giving soul to her community, her friends and family. Surviving are two brothers: James Martin Henry and Wade Hampton Henry, a sister, Priscilla Tolley; a special friend Bonnie Baust as well as several close dear friends, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Henry. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Wednesday, July 8, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy where a memorial service will begin at 12:00 Noon with Rev Elsabeth Hilke officiating. Interment will be private. Bowman, Deborah  
Deborah Ann Bowman, 60, of Mt. Airy, MD, died suddenly Saturday, June 27, 2015 at her home. She was the daughter of Doris June Ward Bowman and the late Leland "Bubby" Calvin Bowman. Debbie was a 1973 graduate of Glenelg High School. She was employed at Chic Hair Salon and Hair Impressions both in Mt. Airy and currently was Director of Education at Beauty Scope. In addition to her mother, she is survived by brothers, Donald Bowman and wife, Jean, and Richard Bowman all of Woodbine, MD; four nephews, Christopher Bowman, Timothy Bowman, Matthew Bowman and Nicholas Bowman; one uncle, numerous aunts and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015 and 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 1st at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Boulevard, Mt. Airy, MD. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2nd at the Stauffer Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Methodist Church Cemetery. Brauning, Betty  
Betty Christine Brauning, 71, of Taneytown, Maryland died peacefully Saturday, June 27, 2015 at her home. Born June 23, 1944 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Dorothy (Nusbaum) Boyer. She was the wife of E. Gordon Brauning, to whom she was married for almost 35 years. Her first husband, John W. Renner, died in 1979. Betty was a housewife and homemaker who enjoyed life on the family farm. She was a graduate of Walkersville High School, class of 1962. She was a member of Taneytown United Presbyterian Church. Betty enjoyed gardening, fishing, and cooking. She loved spending time with family, and entertaining friends. Surviving in addition to her husband are son, Brad Brauning and wife Diane of Taneytown; daughters, Beverly Anthony and husband Steve, and Tina Golling and husband Richard, all of Taneytown, and Kimberly Kurtz and husband Bill of Keymar; step-sons, Gene Brauning of Westminster, and Eric Brauning and wife Tinia of Taneytown; sisters, Sylvia Burrier and husband Sterling of Johnsville, and Carolann Getzandanner and husband Wayne of Graceham; brother, Maurice Boyer of Libertytown; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Lloyd Fuss officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Woodsboro. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Brown, Jimmy Lee  
Jimmy "Jim" Lee Brown, 77, of Westminster, MD, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the Dove House after a 16 month battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Born on November 19, 1937 in Martinsburg, WV, he was the son of the late Elmer Edward Brown and Margaret Priscilla (Miller) Brown. He was the loving husband of Brenda A. (Barnes) Brown. Jim was a 1956 graduate of Martinsburg High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1956 to 1960 and then two years in the reserves. He was proud to have served aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Valley Forge CV545 - a Dirigible Early Warning Airship - Squadron ZWI, Atlantic Fleet. Jim was a Radioman First Class. The Veterans recognized Jimmy with a pinning ceremony at the Dove House. Jim retired from the Retail and Wholesale Tire and Service after 45 years; the last five years as owner and operator of Highland Tire and Service of Highlandtown (Baltimore Metro area). He was an avid Raven's fan and loved football in general. He loved being with his family. Christmas was his favorite time of the year. He loved decorating for the holidays and being with the children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. He enjoyed watching the grandchildren play sports at school and rec council. He made friends no matter where he was. He enjoyed reminiscing about his days on the USS Valley Forge. He also enjoyed constructing small model airplanes. He enjoyed working in the yard and being outside. His favorite music was smooth jazz, big band music and the oldies from the 50's and 60's. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard "Dick" Brown and William "Bill" Brown. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 31 years. Jim was a very proud father of four great children - Vikki Boyce and husband Jack of Jarrettsville, MD; Jodi Collins and husband Mike of Parkton, MD; Lori Wolod and husband Steve of Stevensonville, MD; and Tim Brown and wife Terry of Sykesville, MD. He has one step-son Carroll Barnes of Westminster, MD and one brother Edward Brown of Las Vegas, NV. There are eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great granddaughter - Adalynn and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 10, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the Celebration of Life at 12 noon, at Eline Funeral Home, 2901 Bloom Road and Rte. 91, Finksburg, MD 21048 with Rev. Ann Schlossnagle officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will be at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Rd., Owings Mills, MD 21117. Bruce Anthony Dell, 66, of Westminster, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at the Dove House. Born Oct 2, 1948 in Baltimore, he was the son of Irene Linton Dell of Port Orange Fla. and the late Ottis Irvin Dell. Survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Niner Dell. He was the owner of Bruce A. Dell Contractor and was a well known Musician, leader and bass player of Purple Haze. Besides his wife and mother, he survived by a son, Matthew Dell of Westminster, a sister Karen Gaskins of Port Orange Fla., nieces Whitney Dell, Amanda Hart, Amy Kirkpatrick, Laura Rogers, Ann Weidner, a nephew Brian Dell, and great-niece Tabitha DeCoursey. Also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter Meagan Dell, a brother Alfred Dell and sister-in-law, Marilyn Reichert. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2015, at 11 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Rumbaugh of New Hope Fellowship Church, officiating. Derr, Wanda Rose  
Wanda Rose Derr, age 77 of Reisterstown, Maryland, died on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at her home. Born August 21, 1937 in Fayetteville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Hardy Rufus "Jack" Hawkins and Hillis Alvis (Caldwell) Hawkins. Wanda worked for over 40 years as a clerk for Black & Decker Corporation in Hampstead, MD retiring in 2006. She was of the Methodist faith and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Surviving her are daughter, Teresa "Terri" Couture and husband Gerry of Florida; son, Dana W. Grimes and wife Arlene of Fulton, MD; grandchildren, Lauren Wenzel, Lydia Kesner, Kelsey Grimes, and Delaney Grimes; great-grandchildren, Taven, Cody, and Benjamin; brothers, Joel and Earl Hawkins both of Westminster; sisters, Jewell Geouge and Linda Lantz both of Westminster, Susie Whitehurst of Taneytown, and Marcella Hansen of Delaware. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Peggy Boone and Grace Glaser. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 29, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at 11 a.m., at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St, Westminster, MD.

Etzler, Kathryn  
Kathryn Fogle Etzler, age 91, of Keymar, died Monday, June 29, 2015 at her home. Born July 3, 1923 in Union Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Dennis Oden and Susan Rebecca Warner Fogle. Twice married, she was wife of the late J. Edward Coshun, who died in 1979, and Gerry Stephen Etzler, with whom she celebrated 34 years of marriage this past Saturday. Mrs. Etzler attended Blue Ridge College. She was formerly employed as a branch manager of the Detour Bank. She was also a wedding caterer for many years and for the last 33 years, she and her husband shared their passion of antiques as owner/operators of Etzler Antiques. For many years she was active with the Keysville Lutheran Church. She was affiliated with the Westminster Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Also the Keysville Homemakers Club. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children, James Edward Coshun Jr. of Delray Beach, FL, Terry Lee Coshun of Biglerville, PA and Elizabeth "Libby" DallaTezza and husband, John of Keymar; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and siblings, Betty Mae Waltz and husband Norman "Bob" of Frederick, and David Richard Fogle and wife Marie of Woodbine. She and her first husband were the loving parents of 28 foster children. devoted foster daughter, Mary Helen Adkins She was predeceased by siblings Margaret Elizabeth Fogle, Raymond Milton Fogle, Doris Fogle, Virginia Fogle, William Frank Fogle and Nina Lee Smith. A funeral service will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, on Friday at 11:00 am, with Michael Long officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Keysville.
