Charles W. Porter



Charles William Porter, 88, formerly of Taneytown, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born July 14, 1924, in Massachusetts, he was the son of the late George W. and Kate Adams Porter. He was the husband of Alma Traoutmann Porter, of Williamsport.

He served as a market analyst for the United States Department of Agriculture. He was affiliated with the Episcopal Church and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters, Barbara Fratila and husband Nick, of Brazoria, Texas and Elizabeth Porter, of Lake Jackson, Texas; grandson Major Scott Martin and wife Rebecca, of the Minot, ND Air Force Base; a great-grandson, Jesse Charles Martin; a stepdaughter, Dr. Sharon Murphy, of Columbia; stepsons Peter Hammett, of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Michael Hammett and wife Connie, of Lexington Park; and brothers James Porter, of Agawam, Mass., and John Porter, of Seeding Hills, Mass.

He was predeceased by a sister, Vesta Glowacki; and a brother, George Porter.

A memorial service will be announced at a future date.

Arrangements are by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Westminster.
