Francis Micleta Staley, 87, of Manchester, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Westminster.
Born March 20, 1926, in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Bernie and Viola Bowers Staley. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Staley and the late Madeline Staley.
He was a graduate of Taneytown High School. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving from 1944 to 1946. He had retired after 25 years from Black & Decker. In years past, he played trumpet in the Navy Band, the Broadbeck Band, the Westminster Municipal Band, the Yellow Springs Band, the Dixie Cats Band and other bands. Most recently, he played in the Alesia Band and the Littlestown Municipal Band. He was a member of St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church.
Surviving are daughter Susan Hovermale and husband Lou, of Westminster; stepson Larry Eyler and wife Debbie, of Rocky Ridge; stepdaughters Connie Bohn, of Taneytown, and Debbie Hoerr and husband Bill, of West Friendship; brothers Curtis and Wayne Staley, both of Taneytown; one grandchild; eight step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by infant son Ronald; and by step-son-in-law Lewis Bohn.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Roach officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
