Harless Milton Reid, 86, of Union Bridge, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Country Companions Assisted Living in Taneytown, following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 17, 1927, in Roanoke County, Va., he was the son of the late Lonnie and Essie Weeks Reid. He was the husband of Glenna Stambaugh Reid, who died in 2012.
He was a 1945 graduate of Elmer A. Wolfe High School. He served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock. He was formerly employed with the Union Bridge Farmers Coop, then with Lehigh Portland Cement as a dynamite blaster for 38 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the Gates of Praise Worship Center in Littlestown, Pa., and Union Bridge VFW
Post 8806. He enjoyed woodworking and making things for people.
Surviving are a sister, Elsie Gertrude Little, of Littlestown.
He was predeceased by a sister, Annie Anderson; and brothers Curtis Calvin Reid and Dewey Reid.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge.
A funeral service, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Samuel Garrett, his pastor, officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood.
