Madolyn M. "Lynn" Leatherwood



Madolyn Mae "Lynn" Leatherwood, 87, of Childs, formerly of Mount Airy and Frederick, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at home.

Born April 23, 1926, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Edna Altman. She was the wife of the late Calvin Russell Leatherwood, whom she married in 1946.

She attended Nashville General Hospital Nursing School until she left for health reasons. Following that, she worked at Grove Lime Company in Frederick.

She began her married life in Mount Airy before moving to Frederick. She was a member of Frederick County Homemakers, and was one of the charter members of South End Baptist Church in Frederick. Most recently, she attended First Baptist Church of North East.

She enjoyed home remodeling, was a crafter and seamstress and enjoyed her collection of more than 350 bears.

Surviving are son David Leatherwood and wife Cheryl, of Rising Sun; daughter Kate Galyen and husband Art, of Childs; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Leatherwood.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at First Baptist Church of North East, 206 Mechanics Valley Road, North East.
