Raymond J. Trawinski



Raymond Joseph Trawinski, 68, of Hampstead, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at home.

Born Sept. 23, 1944, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Joseph and Wanda Trawinski. He was the husband of Jean Hale Trawinski.

He grew up in the Highlandtown section of Baltimore, and graduated from Holy Rosary Catholic School and Patterson High School in Baltimore. He graduated from Essex Community College, then enlisted in the Air Force from 1964 until 1969. He was stationed in California and Spain as an aircraft mechanic for B-52 Bombers and KC-135's. He enjoyed protecting and serving the communities he lived in, especially the Baltimore City Police Department for 23 years during which he received Crime Solving Awards. In more recent years, he continued his career in law enforcement at the Hampstead Town Police and as a bailiff at Carroll County Circuit Court.

He was a Past Commander of the American Legion Hampstead Post 200. He had served as the membership chairman and a member of the legion riders.

Also known as Spike, he enjoyed listening to '60s music. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and he enjoyed crossword puzzles, sudoku and watching the Orioles and Ravens. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and cruising in his Corvette.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law Steve and Michelle Trawinski, of Westminster, John and Ivana Trawinski, of New Oxford, Pa., and Joseph and Gretchen Trawinski, of Riverview, Fla.; a daughter, Jaime Craig, of Gaithersburg; grandchildren Ian, Lucas, Chloe, Katie and Reid; sisters Alice Trawinski, of East Berlin, Pa., and Bernadine Trawinski, of Temple Terrace, Fla.; an aunt, Bernadine Foltyn, of New Oxford; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Legion Hampstead Post 200, P.O. Box 292, Hampstead, MD 21074; or the William E. Kahlert Regional Cancer Center and the Tevis Center of Wellness, 200 Memorial Drive, Westminster, MD 21157, which is being built in 2014.
