Sylvia M. Griswold, 77, of Towson, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014.
Born in 1936 and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark, she was the wife of Harold E. "Gene" Griswold for 50 years.
She taught vocal music and kindergarten at Hampstead and Sandymount elementary schools from 1969 through 1996. She was a 1975 graduate of Towson University, earning a master's of early childhood education and a 1993 graduate of Loyola College, in Baltimore, earning a certificate of advanced study in education. In 1996, she was employed by Towson University to supervise early childhood education majors in their field experiences. She received the Maryland Governor's Citation in recognition of 30 years of outstanding service with Maryland Public Schools.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are brother Frederik Bredahl Petersen of Nokomis, Fla.; sisters Hannah Petersen Bluemel, of Baldwin, and Anita Bredahl Baker, of Columbia; niece Nan-Kirsten Forte, of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.; and nephew Erik Weinstock, of Atlanta, Ga.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road, Towson.
