Frances V. "Bant" Koons

Frances V. "Bant" Toms Koons, 89, of Hearthstone Retirement Home in Waynesboro, Pa., died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2011, at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa. Born Feb. 9, 1922, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Wellington and Jettie Stuckey Toms. She was the wife of Theron J. "Tood" Koons Sr., who she married Nov. 29, 1941, in Hagerstown, and who died March 6, 2006. She had been in failing health for the past week. She spent all of her life in the Waynesboro area and was a 1940 graduate of Waynesboro High School. She and her husband moved to Potomac Street in 1954. She was a homemaker and was also employed part time at Williams Dress Shop in Waynesboro for 23 years. She was a member of Otterbein Church in Waynesboro and the Mixed Adult Sunday School Class. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and craftwork. She was also a 50-year member of her 500 card club. Surviving are children Theron J. "Jack" Koons Jr., of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Lacye Jane Shank, of Westminster; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Toms, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Todd Koons; a sister, Violet Good; and a brother, Leo Toms. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. today at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. John Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hearthstone Retirement Home, 102 S.
