Elizabeth B. Falkenstein

Elizabeth Bare "Betsy" Falkenstein, 87, of Westminster, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born Dec. 30, 1925, in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late Dr. S. Luther Bare and Nellie Schaeffer Bare. She was the wife of the Rev. Elwood S. Falkenstein, who died in April 1989.

She was a resident of Carroll Lutheran Village for the last 10 years.

She was a graduate of Wilson College, Yale School of Nursing, and the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene, where she earned her Master of Public Health. She was supervisor of nurses at Carroll County Health Department. In later years she volunteered extensively, but especially at Carroll County General Hospital and Carroll Lutheran Village. She was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church, where her husband was pastor from 1942 until 1965.

Surviving are a son, Luke Falkenstein, of Baltimore; daughter and son-in-law Martha and Tom Clemons, of Annandale, Va.; sister and brother-in-law Martha and George Buckey, of Chambersburg, Pa.; granddaughters Ellen and Sarah Clemons, both of Raleigh, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers Samuel, George and Daniel Bare.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service, 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carroll Lutheran Village, Krug Chapel, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, with Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz officiating. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greenmount Cemetery in York, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Friends of the Village (FOV), 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158.
