Guy Lewis Obituary

Guy Neil Lewis, 94, of Catonsville, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson.

Born Feb. 26, 1918, in Towson, he was the oldest son of the late Guy Lewis and Minnie Salome Catterson Lewis. He was the husband of Mildred Catherine Bange, who died in 2004.

He grew up on various dairy farms rented by his parents. In 1940, he joined the Naval Reserve and was sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and later to Southeast Asia to join the battle in the Coral Sea.

Upon discharge, he and his wife were married. They lived most of their years, and raised their family, on Keyser Road in Pikesville. They traveled throughout the country in their RV and had traveled abroad, including Europe, Australia and China.

He was a carpenter, electrician, plumber and woodworker. Until his retirement, he was employed by the Maryland State Teachers Association in Baltimore.

He was a Christian, worshiping and singing in the choir at Ames United Methodist Church, and then at Milford Mill United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Pikesville for 46 years.

He enjoyed hunting, camping, motorcycles and the Orioles. He moved to the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville in 2005.

Surviving are a sister, Agnes Fay Sprinkel, of Catonsville; a brother, Frederick Elwood Lewis, of Ft. Myers, Fla.; daughters Susan Carey, Wendy Mooney and husband Stephen, all of Freeland, Constance Highfield and husband David, of Westminster, and Neila Clulow and husband Jon, of Pasadena; grandchildren Andrew and Jeffrey Carey, Kathleen Kenney Nagy, Joseph and Patrick Kenney, Cortney Clulow Anderson, Nicholas and Justin Clulow, Christopher and Danielle Mooney; and great-grandchildren Morgan, Jackson, Peyton, Casper, Falco, Benjamin, Ian, Sarah, Ember and Max.

He was predeceased by brothers David Shirley and Harry Lee.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service, 1 p.m. Monday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, with his son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. David A. Highfield, officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville.
