Katherine Elizabeth Townshend, 98, of Westminster, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Constant Care Assisted Living in Sykesville.

Born March 28, 1914, in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late Anna E. Gunther Byers and William D. Byers. She was the wife Henry Whitehill Townshend, who died in 1989.

Before retiring she worked at L. Grief and Bro., and English American Clothiers for 46 years.

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Women of the Moose Ladies Auxiliary No. 897, VFW Mollesville Farm Post Ladies Auxiliary No. 467, past national president, Department of Maryland president, and president of Jerome L. Day No. 48 of the Ladies Auxiliary, 29th Division Association, member of the Ladies Auxiliary Veteran Corps, 5th Regiment and a member of the Carroll County Hospital auxiliary.

Surviving are son and daughter William H. "Bill" and Carol Townshend, of New Windsor; granddaughter Melissa Keeney and husband John, of Taneytown; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Ann Keeney; and nephews Timothy and Charles Byers.

She was predeceased by a brother, Charles D. Byers; and sisters Audrey Stine, and Lillian and Marguerite Byers.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Marty Kuchma officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
