Richard Clark Childress, 78, of Westminster, died June 8, 2012, at Lookabout Manor Nursing Home in Westminster.

Born Feb. 5, 1934, in Greensboro, N.C., he was the son of the late Paul W. and Margaret Clark Childress. He was the husband of the late Elsie J. Jensen Childress, who died on Jan. 21, 1996, and Dorothy Rohrbaugh Zollickoffer Childress, whom he married Dec. 5, 1996.
He was a graduate of Greensboro High School in 1952. He was a First Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy from 1952-1956, serving on the USS Maloy, during the Korean War. He graduated from Mars Hill College in 1959 and then North Carolina State with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1961. He was an electrical engineer for Domino Sugar, retiring on Feb. 28, 1989. He was a member of the Westminster Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing golf, reading and travel.
Surviving are children and spouses Wayne J. and Connie Childress, of California, Glenn P. and Susan Childress, of Georgia, and Scott and Cami Childress, of Glen Burnie; eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Pritts Funeral Home, 412 Washington Road, Westminster and at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Westminster Baptist Church, 354 Crest Lane, Westminster with Pastor Larry Steen officiating. Interment will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery.
