William Franklin Catron, 60, of Hampstead, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at home of pancreatic cancer.

Born Nov. 13, 1951, in Marion, Va., he was the son of Iris I. Barker Catron, of Marion, and the late Lewis H. Catron. He was the husband of Bonnie Jean Catron, his wife of 35 years.
He attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. He had served in the Air Force from 1971 to 1975, and the Army National Guard from 1977 to 1979, where he graduated from OCS and IOBC training. Prior to retirement in 2007, he had worked as a senior signals analyst engineer for the Department of Defense.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hampstead. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, discussing politics and spending time with his family.
Surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are a daughter, Emily Jean Catron, of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, Richard L. Catron, of Hampstead; a paternal grandmother, Lena Vivian Catron, of Wytheville, Va.; and a mother-in-law, Jean C. Colton, of Westminster.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3239 Carrollton Road, Hampstead, with the Rev. Curtis Ehrgott officiating. Interment will be in Wesley United Methodist Cemetery.
