Atlee H. Conaway Jr., 89, of Finksburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at Edenwald Nursing Home in Towson. Born Oct. 18, 1921, in Owings Mills, he was the son of the late Atlee H. Sr. and Margaret Buckingham Conaway. Twice married, he was the husband of Hilah T. Conaway, who died in 1984, and Barbara Leiby Conaway. He was a construction supervisor with J. Vinton Schaefer Construction Company for 40 years. He served in World War II with the Army Air Force. He was a member and past president of the Roaring Run Lions Club, an avid woodworker and artist, and enjoyed nature and spending time at his property in West Virginia. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five stepchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings Virginia Alterman and Mary Williams. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Clarence L. Roark officiating. Interment will be in Providence Church Cemetery in Gamber.
