Beverly Jean Jamison Akers, 78, of Sykesville, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Columbia.

Born June 10, 1935, in Clear Lake, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Mable Irene Stewart Jamison.

She had retired as an assistant teacher in elementary education. She was member of the Red Hat Society, the Nells Acres Mahjong Group and the Worthington/Bushy Park Dinner Clubs.

Surviving are sons Brian Vasa-Akers and wife Birgit Vasa-Akers, Brent Ronald Akers and wife Paula Akers, Blake Ralph Akers, and Barry Lance Akers and wife Catherine Akers; a brother, Keith Jamison; and grandchildren Sebastian, Cassandra, Victoria, Kevin, Sean, Jared, Cameron, Abigail, Matthew, Madison and Jamison.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Jamison.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 1 p.m. until the time of service, 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to JDRF, (formerly Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund), Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter, 1400 K. Street, NW, Suite 725, Washington, DC  20005; include a note stating, "In Memory of Beverly Akers."
