Ethel E. Wilhide, 93, of Westminster, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center, following a lengthy illness.

Born Jan. 14, 1920, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Grenville Lee Erb and Mamie Viola Brown Erb. She was the wife of Earle Roland Wilhide Sr., her husband of 65 years, who died in 2008.

She was a graduate of Westminster High School, a 1941 graduate of Western Maryland College, and also received her master's equivalency. She was one of the first teachers at Francis Scott Key High School, teaching English for more than 20 years.

She was an active member of Mount Union Lutheran Church in Union Bridge, a past worthy matron of Plymouth Chapter No. 41, Order of the Eastern Star, and one of the members of the first Board of Directors of Carroll Lutheran Village.

She enjoyed golf, square dancing, traveling and playing dominoes.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Linda Lee and Paul Michael Quick, of Bel Air; son and daughter-in-law Earle R. Jr. and Robin Wilhide, of Edgewater; grandchildren Keri Lynn Kornelsen and husband Mark, of Fishers, Ind., Kristine Rene Gilmour and husband Brian, of Bel Air, Jason Brent Wilhide and Jason Noss, both of Edgewater, Brian Jay Wilhide, of Columbia, and Bryan Noss, of Churchton; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard L. Michael, her pastor, and the Rev. Jimmie Schwartz, chaplain of Carroll Lutheran Village, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Union Cemetery.
