Fred "Bud" Burkhard, 56, of Sykesville, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born Feb. 17, 1956, in New Jersey, he was the son of Eileen Claire and Kenneth William Cobleigh, of Oak Ridge, N.C. He was the husband of Nina Lafiner.
He had been a special assistant to the Provost at The American University in Washington, D.C., and was a lifelong academic and college professor.
Surviving, in addition to his parents and wife, are daughters and son-in-law Rose and John Marick, of Mount Airy, and Amanda Teller, of Ellicott City; sister and brother-in-law Judith Marie and Cliff Lynch, of Oak Ridge, N.C.; brother Kenneth Cobleigh Jr. and wife Beth, of Dayton; a stepson, Michael Kennedy, of Las Vegas; and grandchildren Owen Jacob, Lily Jeannine, Logan John and Maggie Jewel Marick.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.
