Mary Annette Altvater, 86, of Berlin, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Eddison and Nettie Bensel Zink. She was the wife of the late Edgar J. Altvater Jr. She was part owner of the National Pike Crab House in Howard County and House of Crab's in Ocean City. She was also a former member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Catonsville. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Ocean City, president of a local AARP chapter for two years, an Elks member, and a senior citizen dance group that performed at different events in Ocean City. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing, traveling and visiting Las Vegas. Surviving are children Barbara Johnson and husband Charles, Catherine James, John Altvater and wife Joann, Mark Altvater and wife Donna; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter. A funeral service was held Wednesday at Witzke Funeral Homes, 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia. Interment is in Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge.
