Norman Moxley Obituary

Norman Ezekiel Moxley Jr., 84, of Columbia, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010. Born Aug. 2, 1926, he was the son of the late Norman E. Moxley Sr. and Evelyn R. Richarts. He was one of the first three residents when the Arc of Howard County opened its first group home on Columbia's Rain Dream Hill. Soon after he moved to Rain Dream Hill, he began visiting schools as part of the school system's Disability Awareness Program, telling audiences what it was like to live in an institution and how living in the community changed his life. Surviving are siblings Robert R. Moxley and Marilyn M. Embrey, both of Ellicott City, and Eleanor M. Breeden, of West Friendship; eight nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Ernest Kirk Breeden. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Slack Funeral Home, 3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church, 4261 Montgomery Road, Ellicott City. Interment will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Arc of Howard County Inc., 11735 Homewood Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043. Online condolences may be offered at www.slackfuneralhome.com.
