Phyllis Lorene Meacham Ayres, 85, of Upperco, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at home.

Born July 12, 1927, in Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Frank Meacham and Victoria Hutchins Meacham. She was the wife of Lester B. Ayres Sr., her husband of 66 years.

Years ago, she worked for Western Union, Acme Food Markets and as a cook for Twin Kiss Restaurant in Reisterstown. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and being with her family.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children Lester B. Ayres Jr., of Hanover, Pa., Debra J. Bailey, Daniel W. Ayres, and Mark C. Ayres and wife Carol, all of Millers, Gale L. Hunter and husband Timothy, of Finksburg, and Brian S. Ayres, of Manchester; siblings Treva Melton, Dorothy Newbrough, Floyd Meacham, Louise Miller, and Ruby Lentz, all of Iowa, Leonard Meacham, of California, and Donna Belgard, of Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Adams officiating. A private cremation was held at All Faith Crematory & Chapel in Manchester. A private interment will be a later date.
