Jean Irene Reynard Rice, 88, of Westminster, formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House after a long illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1925 in Swain, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Ruth and Lafay Reynard. She was the wife of Dana F. Rice, her husband of 67 years.
She was a graduate of Millard Fillmore School of Nursing in Buffalo, N.Y. As a registered nurse, she worked at Millard Fillmore Hospital and also did private duty work for many years.
She was a 64-year member of Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, N.Y. She served as superintendent of the Sunday school for 10 years and served 20 years as treasurer of the Women's Association. She was an ordained deacon. She was an active volunteer for League of Women Voters, Church Women United, Planned Parenthood and the Council of Churches in Western New York.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters and sons-in-law Marna and Norman Cary, of Rockville, Debra and Francis Cicero, of Monkton, and Lorna Rice, of New Windsor; grandson Benjamin Cary and wife Melissa; granddaughters Sarah Cicero and fiance Michael Ward, Julia Cicero and husband Christopher Schanberger, and Mary Cicero; a great-grandson, Dominic DeCerbo; sisters-in-law Margaret Rider and Charlotte Wilbur; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Keith Reynard; and a sister, Jane Meacham.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of memorial service, 3 p.m. Thursday at Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, with the Rev. Dr. Wm. Louis Piel and Chaplain Jimmie L. Schwartz officiating. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, N.Y.
