Dorothy Jean Strine, 84, of Union Bridge, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at home following a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 21, 1929, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Helen Louise Boone Delphey, who predeceased her at a young age, and the late Elmer Nicholas Delphey Sr.; and stepdaughter of the late Evelyn E. Haines. She was the wife of Raymond David Ziegler Sr., who died in 1990, and James T. "Tollie" Strine, her husband of 22 years.
She was formerly employed with Hartz sewing factory. She was a life member and former president of the VFW
Post 8806 Auxiliary of Union Bridge. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, baking and playing bingo. She also enjoyed spending time with family and was like a mother to everyone in Union Bridge.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters Connie Ziegler, of Hanover, Pa., and Lana Zile and husband Larry Danner, of Taneytown; sons Allen and wife Peggy Ziegler, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Raymond David Ziegler Jr., of Union Bridge; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Ball; and a brother, Elmer N. Delphey Jr.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 until the time of service, 5 p.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, with Raymond Wetzel, a close family friend, officiating.
