George L. Graves, 90, of Upperco, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born Nov. 26, 1923, in Blacksburg, Va., he was the son of the late Guy E. and Clara Snider Graves. He was the husband of Ruth E. Graves, his wife of 32 years.
He was a combat veteran of both World War II
and the Korean War
, having served in the Army
Air Corps and the Army. Prior to retirement, he was a truck driver.
He was a member of VFW
Post #467 in Westminster and the B-26 Marauders. He enjoyed traveling and visiting historic sites and working in his yard.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter Arnise E. and husband Michael Journey, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; sisters Doris Bowles, of Blacksburg, Va., Evelyn Holewa, Robertine Kostric and Nelva Kostric, all of Dublin, Va.; and grandsons Michael Journey, of Westminster, and Alex Journey, of Harpers Ferry.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 15801 Trenton Road, Upperco, with the Rev. Melvina Stricklin officiating. Interment will be private.
