Justine P. Irvin, 92, died Friday, April 18, 2014, at Fairhaven in Sykesville, where she resided for eight years.
Born Nov. 6, 1921, in Louisville, Ky., she was the only child of the late Leslie William Patterson and the late Dorothy Batchelder Skillen Patterson. She was the wife of the late Jack Edward Lewitt, her husband of nearly 50 years, and of the late Robert Earl Stanton and Philip Irvin.
Like so many in her generation, she was known to take pride in raising her children and maintaining their home in the Detroit area. She and husband Jack built two homes together, including a family retreat at Thayer Lake, near Alden, Mich., and traveled around the country during retirement.
She was a homemaker and also a home builder. She was a church member and enjoyed making jewelry, making teddy bears, poodles, boating and nature. She was a collector, car rally participant and a snowbird.
She was known for her commitment to her family and friends, her sense of design and adventure, her style, steadfastness, social grace and personality.
Surviving are daughter Sharon Lewitt Pappas and son-in-law Jack J. Pappas, of Eldersburg; a son, Richard Edward Lewitt, of Los Angeles, Calif.; granddaughters Sandra Pappas Werner and husband Jeff Werner, and Michelle Lewitt Kehl and her husband Kris Kehl; grandson Gregory John Pappas and wife Stephanie Pappas, great-grandchildren Luke Wilson, Alexis Pappas, Katherine Werner, William Werner, Carson Kehl and Carter Kehl; and great-great grandchildren Peyton, Landon and Brighton Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, Fairhaven, chapel, 7200 Third Ave., Sykesville.
