John William Brodbeck Sr., 83, of Hampstead, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Sun Valley Ridge Overlook Assisted Living in Taylorsville.
Born Oct. 23, 1930, in Greenmount, he was the son of the late Harry L. Brodbeck and Florence L. Blocher. He was the husband of the late Anna Rae Grothe Brodbeck, his wife of 45 years.
He was a retired truck driver for Blue Diamond Trucking with 40 years of service and was a farmer for most of his life.
He was a member of Greenmount United Methodist Church and a former member of the Westminster Moose. He enjoyed working at his produce stand on Brodbeck Road, hunting, NASCAR and spending time with family.
Surviving are children Yvonne Brodbeck Shaw, of Moyock, North Carolina, and John W. Brodbeck Jr. and wife Beate, of Hampstead; grandchildren John W. Brodbeck III and Jessica Brodbeck, both of Hampstead, and Kimberly Shaw and Richard Shaw Jr., both of Moyock; great-grandchildren Logan, Lauren, Richard III, and Alexis Shaw, all of Moyock; a great-great-granddaughter, Aubree Shaw, of Moyock; siblings Audrey Brodbeck, of Baltimore, and Harold H. Brodbeck, of Hampstead; and many nieces and nephews, especially Richard Brodbeck, of New Oxford, Pennsylvania.
He was predeceased by a son-in-law Richard Shaw Sr.; and a brother, Carl O. Brodbeck.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of service, 3 p.m. Tuesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, with his pastor, the Rev. John Rudolph officiating. Interment will be in Greenmount United Methodist Church Cemetery in Greenmount.
