Robert A. Ballantine, Sr., 77, of Frederick, died Sunday, July 6, 2014 at St. Josephs Ministries in Emmitsburg. Born August 23, 1936 at the family farm in Princess Anne, he was the son of the late William A. and Margaret V. Pennell Ballantine. He was the husband of Inez V. Smith Ballantine, whom he met at a dance in Dorsey. They were married January 25, 1954. He was a brick and block mason, poured concrete foundation contractor and owner of Robert A. Ballantine, Inc for 54 years. Bob also loved his farms in Cross Junction, VA. He was an avid hunter and traveled all over the continent to hunt. Bob would say "Any How," then he knew he had your attention. Bob never met a stranger. He was admired by many. Bob started racing stock cars at the young age of 14 years old. He continued racing on dirt and asphalt; at a professional level for over 50 years. Beloved father of children and spouses Robert A. and Debora Ballantine, Jr. of Woodbine, George M. and Kimberly Ballantine of Essex, Jewell A. and Robert Givens of Emmitsburg, David G. and Cherie Ballantine of Taylorsville and Wayne E. and Teresa Ballantine of Dayton; brother to William A. Ballantine of North Carolina, Thomas W. Ballantine of Finksburg and George M. Ballantine of West Friendship; grandchildren Robert III, Tori, Stephanie, Keri Ann, Christopher, Corey, Joshua, Krystle, Amanda, Amie, Megan, and Amber; and 7 great grandchildren. Friends may call for viewing at the Bethany United Methodist Church, 2875 Bethany Lane, Ellicott City, on Thursday from 2 - 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11 am at the Bethany United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Andrew Cooney. Interment will follow in Meadowridge Memorial Park.
