Holise Elizabeth Hale, 100, of Upperco, died Thursday August 7, 2014 at Long View Nursing Home in Manchester. Born December 26, 1913 in Baltimore County, she was the daughter of the late B. Edwin and Nettie McComas Martin. She was the wife of the late John Gordon Hale, who died in 2000. Prior to retirement, she had worked as a presser at the Hampstead Sewing Factory. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Hampstead, where she belonged to United Methodist Women. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and making chocolate chip cookies for them. Surviving are daughters, Phyllis Goretsas of Hampstead, Janet Martin of Manchester, Arla Martin of Hampstead, and Darlene Ramsay of Cape May, NJ; sons, Delmar Hale of Hampstead and Gerald Hale of Manchester; sister, Ruth Hare of Westminster; brothers, Donald Martin and Amos Martin, both of Hampstead; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Hale and brothers, Paul and Silas Martin. Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Eline Funeral Home, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead and Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, 18217 Falls Road, Hampstead with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Jarrett Wicklein officiating. Interment will be in Salem United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Salem United Methodist Church, 18221 Falls Road, Hampstead, MD 21074. Please designate the contribution for either the Prayer Shawl and Book Club or the music department.
