Jean R. Simpson, 89, of Westminster, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster. Born July 4, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Molly Smeltzer. She was the wife of the late Merle Simpson. She was a homemaker and a hard worker. She was an active member of the Westminster Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, encouraging Bible education in the community for more than 50 years. Surviving are a son, Jeff Simpson, of Hanover, Pa.; a daughter, Sharon Carlson, of Westminster; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by a son, Michael; a sister, Ruth; brothers Robert, Richard and Glenn; and a son-in-law, Robert Carlson. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1131 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Westminster, with Gerry Etzler officiating.
