Robert J. Whitney, 89, of Westminster, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at Carroll Hospice Dove House.

He was born May 27, 1923, in Rochester, New York, and is the son of the late Harold and Sara Jonrowe Whitney.
He worked as a custodian at Westminster High School for three years and then at Francis Scott Key High School before he retired. He then worked for the CC Farm Museum and Baughers.
He was a veteran of the Army and served during WWII. He was a life member of the VFW Post 467 in Westminster, member of the Westminster Moose, Sunday School teacher at Linwood Church of the Brethren and a Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan.
Surviving are wife Denneise G. Whitney and daughter Diana L. Whitney, of Baltimore. He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris L. Whitney, and brother Paul Whitney.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, with the Rev. Larry Adamczyk officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 2800 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg.
