Howard Henry Porter Sr., 80, of Westminster, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born April 1, 1932, in Shippensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Henry Clayton Porter and Florence Sibley Porter. He was the husband of the late Doris Tucker Porter.
He was a 1949 graduate of Franklin High School. He entered the U.S. Navy
, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam war
s. He served aboard the USS Shangri la (CV-38) and other aircraft carriers. After 20 years of service, he retired as a chief warrant officer, W-2. He enjoyed reading history books.
Surviving are children Donna Poulin, John Porter, Howard H. Porter Jr.; sister Virginia Ostheimer; brother Ellis Porter; grandchildren Jessica Smith, Josh and Simon Porter; great-grandchildren Isabella Smith and Cimmera Porter.
He was predeceased by his son Jesse Clayton Porter.
Services and interment will be private. Burial will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
