Ralph A. Condon, 85, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Westminster, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013.
He was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Taylorsville. He was the husband of Ava Rakes Condon, his wife of 65 years.
He was a Navy veteran and served in World War II
. Starting as an auto mechanic, in 1954 he was founder of Condon's Auto Parts, which is still operating with the third generation.
He was a member of the local Kiwanis Club and the Westminster Church of the Brethren. He was religious, and enjoyed his family, Deep Creek Lake, auto racing of any sort, playing cards and pitching horseshoes. Travels to Deep Creek started in the mid '50s and continued as long as he was able. He sponsored several race cars at a local level, which included many trips to various NASCAR tracks. He was a Richard Petty fan. When unable to travel, he would watch the races on TV. He was usually the player to beat at card games. He was a two-time Florida state horseshoe champion in his age bracket.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, son Jerry and wife Babs, of Westminster; daughter Deb and husband Michael Tulley, of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathryn Anne Talbert.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pritts Funeral Home, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Stone, of Sarasota, officiating. Interment will follow at Pipe Creek Cemetery.
