Joseph Halley Obituary
Joseph R. Halley, age 76, of Winfield, MD, died Friday, May 20, 2016 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. He was born December 27, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA., the son of the late Joseph R. Halley and the late Gertrude Schnabel Halley. He was the husband of Lois Halley of Winfield, MD. He served in the United States Navy; he retired as a Chief Technician at the MD Science Center after 29 years, and was the second person hired on the Planetarium Staff. Joe loved animals, especially birds, crafted jewelry, and enjoyed photography and electronics. He was the brother of Marilyn Halley and the late Joyce Halley; also survived by 2 nephews and 2 nieces. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD, 21784, (Beside South Carroll High School) on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 4:00-5:00 PM, with a Funeral Service starting at 5:00 PM with Elder Rob Van Ness officiating. Private Interment. Memorial Contributions can be made to Briggs Animal Adoption Center, P.O. Box 1023, Charles Town, WV. 25414-1023. My sincere condolences to Joe's family. When I started at the MSC, Joe went out of his way to establish a friendship and make me feel welcome. He was a warm, witty, clever gentleman with a great heart and the source of fond memories for me as well as everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

Joe was one of the most interesting and intelligent individuals I have ever known. I enjoyed working, thinking, and laughing with him at the Maryland Science Center for many years. He truly thought out of the box to not only solve any problem but make things better. Condolences to the family.

So very sorry to learn of my dear friends passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family. I worked with Joe at the Maryland Science Center until he retired. He was always full of jokes and wore the coolest t-shirts! He is loved and will be greatly missed.

Joe was so welcoming to me when I moved here from Ohio to work at the MD Science Center. I learned much from him that I still use everyday. His wit, strong work ethic and creativity were a gift to this world. He will always have a dear place in my heart,
