Charles Willard Davis of West Ky. 70 in Casey County passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. He was 81. Born Dec. 12, 1932, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Wade Hampton and Carrie Lee Barnett Davis. He was a farmer and former Sunday school teacher. He was a former member of Creston Baptist Church and current member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Davis was a highly decorated 21-year retired U.S. Army veteran, having achieved the rank of 1st Sergeant. He did five tours of combat in Vietnam. He received two Purple Hearts and five Bronze Stars with V devices. Mr. Davis also enjoyed music and played lead guitar in several different music groups, including the Happy Travelers, Firm Believers and the Glory Airs. Survivors include his dear wife, whom he married on June 22, 1980, Nan Moxley Davis; two brothers, Cleo (and Catherine) Davis of Petersburg, Ill. and Clifford (and Mary Lou) Davis of Cincinnati; two sisters, Jean Williams of Columbia and Jewell Tedder of Tallula, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Murrell Davis; and a sister, Lina Mae Smith. Funeral services were Dec. 17 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Gale Durham officiating. Burial was in the Old Antioch Cemetery with military funeral honors by the U.S. Army Fort Knox Color Guard. Pallbearers were his nephews, Royce, Brian, and Rodney Davis, Jeff and Steve Burchell, and Dewain Burton. Honorary pallbearers were Aubrey Pennington, Bill Moxley, Phillip Dean, Olvest Moxley, Bill Lester, Bob Hackbarth, Ronnie Atwood, David Moxley, Bryant Moxley, Edward Jones, Jerry Smith, and members of the Happy Travelers, Firm Believers, and Glory Airs.
