Earnest Murphy of Liberty died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was 77. Born in Liberty on Feb. 14, 1935, he was the son of the late Tommy and Gertie Carr Murphy. He was a former mechanic at Liberty Sportswear and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. Survivors include his wife, Rose Davis Murphy; a daughter, Jennifer Godbey of Liberty; a son, Jeff Murphy of Liberty; four grandchildren, Emily and Natalie Fox, and Erin and Katie Murphy; two great-grandchildren, Stella and Vivian Fox; three brothers, Osburn Murphy of Gosport, Ind., Jessie Murphy of Liberty and Otis Murphy of Mooresville, Ind.; and a sister, Doris Santee of Indianapolis, Ind. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Peyton. Funeral services were Oct. 20 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Monty Lynn officating. Burial was at Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Godbey, Charlie Fox, Matt Moore, Jeff Murphy, Tim Jaynes and Brad Johnson. Bartle Funeral Home Liberty was in charge of arrangements. www.bartlefuneralhomes.com.
