Gladys Rachel Derringer, 74, of Liberty, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017, at the Casey County Hospital.

She was born Aug. 7, 1942, in Liberty, a daughter of the late Luther and Ova Sharp Phelps.

Gladys was a former employee of Union Underwear. She loved gardening and working in her flower beds. She was a member of Carr's Chapel First Church of God, was a former square dancer with the Casey County Swingers, former member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary and a former member of the Casey County Hospital Auxiliary and a mother figure to most of her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her loving husband, Charles Derringer whom she married on Aug. 2, 1978; a stepson, Timothy Lee Derringer of Des Moines, Iowa; and a brother, Shelby Phelps of Dunnville.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were three sisters, Barbara Rodgers, Juanita Phelps and Betty Jean Buck; and six brothers, Coy, Dee, Donald, Elbert, Eli and Marvin Phelps.

The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel with Brothers Marshall Malone and David Holt officiating. Burial follows in the Wilson Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday May 3, and continues at 8 a.m. Thursday May 4, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty.
