After battling cancer for more than two years, James Edward Abell passed away peacefully at his home in Willis, Texas on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013. He was 29. He was born on May 22, 1983 in New Iberia, La., and his life was full of joyful experiences as he was an avid hunter and passionate fisherman. He was a loved member of Dacus Baptist Church, and formally worked for UPS, where he held onto many of the friendships formed there. James made a difference in the lives of those who knew him. He loved spending time with his friends and family. He was known for being an appreciative and loving man, a champion of fairness and honesty, and living life to the fullest. With a smile that shined like the sunrise on an early morning hunt, he brought joy to those who witnessed his growth into a strong, compassionate husband. Despite his illness, James looked upon himself as a fighter, not a victim. He lived life like a hand reaching out to grasp every moment, seizing every opportunity and never missing a chance to meet new people and touch their lives. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife and best friend, Amy Blanton Abell of Willis; his father, Stan Abell and wife Danna Simpson of Liberty; his mother, Laura Miranda and husband Rudy of Conroe, Texas; a sister, Lauren Abell of Conroe, Texas; grandparents, Mary Bessie Abell of Knifley, Jim and Kathy Blanton of Conroe, Texas, and August and Bonnie Hill of Conroe, Texas; mothers- and fathers-in-law/love, Taina Blanton and Christian Diaz of Conroe, Texas, and Randy and Gracie Blanton of Conroe, Texas; brothers- and sisters-in-law/love, Doug and Carrie Downing, and Corey and Bethany Diamond; nephews, Jackson Cater, Evan Marquez, Jefferson Downing, and Ethan Marquez; a niece, Harper Lee Downing; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandaddy, James Emmanuel Abell; and granny, Allene Bailey. A celebration of James' life was held on Jan. 26 at Mims Baptist Church, 1609 Porter Road Conroe, Texas, and the graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 at St. Bernard Cemetery in Clementsville. Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Paul Abell, Matthew Marple, Kevin Tran, and Christian Diaz. In lieu of flowers contributions are preferred to the Dacus Baptist Church in care of ""He is Abell"" fund, and/or team ""Always Abell."" Local funeral arrangements entrusted to McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Those wishing to post tributes to the family may do so at www.mckinneybrown.com.
