Janis Marlene Ellis-Irwin, 79, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed over peacefully Tuesday, May 13, 2014 with her family by her side. She was born in Liberty to the late Clayton and Lela Walden-Ellis on Oct. 24, 1934. She was a devoted mother and wife to Senior Master Sergeant Donald Irwin, who retired after 27 years of service and who took her all over the world with the Air Force. Janis was a business woman and an accountant. Janis pioneered in the Business and Professional Woman Association in 1981. She was the owner and president of an accounting firm called Action Data Services. She owned and operated TMRI Management, a cleaning service in Destin, Fla. She won an Umpire of the Year award for the first lady umpire and for her contribution to the fast pitch baseball game in 1974. She retired from Leo Whitworth in 2004. After Janis retired, she was a mentor for children in the local school district. She enjoyed mentoring, sewing, gardening, reading, and her grandchildren. Janis is preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Irwin; husband, Donald Irwin; a brother, Russell Irwin; a sister, Joe Bolt; and her parents, Clayton and Lela Ellis. Surviving are her children, Scott, Stephany, Timothy, Donna; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson; a sister, Zona Ellis-Weddle; and cousins Betty Hignite-Dorman, Jerry Hignite, David Hignite, Sonja Webber-Wisner; and all her nephews and nieces.
