Obituary
The Guest Book is expired.

Joey Brent Dykes, 63, of Campton, departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017.

Born on March 26, 1954 in Liberty, he was a son of the late Orina Murrill and Auta Marie Carr Dykes.

In August 1976, he began working as a civil engineer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Natural Resources Conservation Service. His career spanned more than 41 years of incredible service dedicated to preserving our nation's natural resources.
Joey never met a stranger and always made you feel like you had been his friend for a lifetime after your first meeting with him. He truly is a forever friend. His smile lit up the room and he always was good for several laughs. In 1987, Gov. Wallace Wilkinson named him a Kentucky Colonel. He has also won numerous awards and accolades during his employment with USDA-NRCS.

Joey made his peace with God through accepting Jesus Christ as His Savior. He found comfort knowing he was going home to heaven. He often stated that being outdoors is where he felt God the most. If he wasn't working outdoors he could be found on the lake doing his favorite hobby – fishing. His pride was his daughter, Andrea "Andie" Dyke-Owens whom he always has been a loving and supportive father to as she grew and achieved her dreams. He will be forever loved and cherished through the many memories and golden nuggets of knowledge he took time to invest in her life. He warmly welcomed his son-in-law, Josh Owens ,into the family as the son he never had. There has never been a greater father or father-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by a daughter, Andrea "Andie" Nicole Dykes Owens (Josh) of Russell Springs; and a brother, Cody Lee Dykes of Liberty.

The funeral was Friday, Dec. 15, at Porter & Son Funeral Director's Chapel with Brother Josh Owens officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery in Liberty.
