Phillip William Sears of Liberty passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset. He was 63. Born June 8, 1951 in McAlester, Okla., he was a son of the late Henry Starr Sears and Rebecca Ann Frakes Sears. Phillip was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. He was a welder and enjoyed fishing. He also worked in maintenance for Ray Martin's rental properties for more than 20 years. Survivors include his dear wife, whom he married on Dec. 1, 1973, Adella Owens Sears; sons, Tony (and Tammie) Sears and Jonathan Sears, both of Liberty; a brother, Jesse Griffin of Yukon, Okla.; sisters, Elizabeth Cunningham of Calvin, Okla. and Ivora Sensibaugh of Haileyville, Okla.; and three grandchildren, Joey, Wesley, and Haley. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Dean Sears. Funeral services were Oct. 7 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. David Coffey officiating. Burial was at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville with military honors by the Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post #18. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Blackhorse Association, ATTN: Treasurer, P.O. Box 84093, Lexington, SC 29073.
